I AM a Radcliffe parent whose child will be attending a high school in Bury this September.

These high schools do not belong to the people who live in Bury: they are part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, of which Radcliffe is also a constituent part, the same as is Greenmount, Tottington and Brandlesholme. My council tax is paid to Bury every year and is never refused, though from recent comments made, am I to assume that my children should be?

No, I don't want my children to attend a high school in Radcliffe because, in my opinion, they do not offer as good a standard of education. I am sure that some parents of children at Radcliffe high schools would not agree, but I am entitled to my opinion.

Who are these complaining parents in Bury trying to kid anyway? Distance has nothing to do with it. If Radcliffe High and Coney Green had really good reputations, they would be flooding from Bury to attend them. It is always Radcliffe parents who, every year, get named and shamed in these "high school wars". People from Radcliffe are not that bad are they? We come in peace. Our mission is not to take over Bury schools, but to give our children a good standard of education. They deserve that don't they?

Just for the record, some pupils at our local primary school are actually transported there by bus and car from Tottington and Bury. But then it is one of the highest achieving primary schools in the borough.

These children will then go on to claim their "rightful" places at Bury high schools, I should think. But then that is alright, isn't it.
