WORK on a £1.5million project to secure water supplies for 37,000 customers in parts of Newton-le-Willows, Haydock, Ashton-in-Makerfield and Golborne is nearing completion.
The scheme has involved replacing worn-out equipment and installing new automation processes at the Lightshaw water treatment works.
John Graham, North West Water's customer operations manager, said: "At first customers may notice a slightly different taste to the water as the original source is re-introduced and the proportion of this water is brought back to its original levels. This will take place during the next two or three weeks.
