A MAN from Burnley has been found stabbed to death in a Lancashire holiday resort -- and a woman has been charged with his murder.

Kye Anthony Gorton, a member of a large, well-known, local family, was found dead on Thursday morning at the home of Heather Anne Ackerley, in Thorpe Avenue, Morecambe.

The 21-year-old woman was due to appear before Lancaster magistrates today charged with murder.

She was arrested on Thursday and was charged last night.

Police said they would apply for her to be remanded in custody.

A post-mortem examination revelaed Mr Gorton, 25, of Airdrie Crescent, Burnley, died from a single knife wound to the chest. Mr Gorton lived in a Burnley and Padiham Community Housing property -- a former council house -- with his girlfriend.

His mother, Susan, of Girvan Grove and other family members declined to comment on the death.

In October 1998 Mr Gorton, then of Hargher Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty at Crown Court to supplying heroin and handling stolen goods and was jailed for two years.

Mr Gorton's death is the second tragedy to strike the family in recent years.

In December 1996 his cousin Kayle Gorton, eight, of Morley Street, was killed after jumping onto the back of a slow-moving fire engine near his home and falling under the rear wheels. An inquest recorded a verdict of accidental death.
