A ROLLING programme of celebrations marked the opening of three new play areas in Blackburn.
A cash injection of £140,000 of single regeneration funding was secured from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to build the all-weather surfaces in the Whitebirk, Hillside and Romney Walk areas.
The Blackburn East Area Community Help partnership (BEACH) teamed up with the council's regeneration and community and leisure departments to develop the facilities, after a survey revealed they were wanted by local people.
Majorettes put on dancing displays and sporting competitions were held during the official opening of the play areas by the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Coun Salas Kiani.
Tom Flanagan, director of regeneration, said: "This is an excellent example of collaborative working between the council and community in the Blackburn East area.
"The playing areas are a response to what the community need in their areas to improve the quality of life of local residents, especially the young people."
