BLACKPOOL boss Steve McMahon is being linked to a move for Wimbledon misfit Carl Leaburn (pictured).

Leaburn is a tall striker, who has only scored five goals for the Dons since his arrival.

A Wimbledon spokesman said: "We aren't aware of any official moves for him, but it is possible that enquiries have been made.

"Our new manager, Terry Burton, has gone on holiday for two weeks and we aren't sure what his exact plans are yet.

"Carl is a great guy and always gives 100 per cent on the pitch. He is a great player to watch."

Leaburn was a £150,000 signing for Wimbledon but has struggled to keep a place in the first team, making 34 starts and 22 substitute appearences in the past two years.

Cash-wise, the Dons would probably take £100,000 for Leaburn, who would be more than happy to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond.

Whether or not the London-born striker would want to leave the South is another matter.

POTENTIAL transfer target Darren Byfield has been signed by Walsall.

The striker, who spent a short period on loan at Bloomfield Road from Aston Villa, was released by John Gregory because he wasn't breaking into the Villa first team.

Pool manager Steve McMahon was thought to be keen on signing the pacy striker, but a good offer from nearby Walsall, offering him the chance to perform at a higher level, was more than enough for him to snap up. POOL'S pre-season tournament to Caribbean islands St Kitts and Nevis looks likely to go ahead.

Club secretary Carol Banks revealed the trip was looking more and more likely, based around a three-team tournament, involving Brazilian team Mesquita Rio FC and Al-Nasser FC of Qatar.

The St Kitts-Nevis Football Association will pay for the Tangerines to fly out for the tournament, as they did with Bradford and Oldham in the past two years.

Carol said: "I'm working on the trip right now and it looks more like going on now than it did a couple of days ago.

"We're trying to put it all together and hopefully, I will be able to sort out a package for fans to get out there as well. We'll be releasing details as soon as we have them."

LEE Collins has not yet put pen to paper on a deal with the Seasiders -- but he is expected to do so next week.

Although various press agencies -- and even Swindon Town Football Club -- have announced that the deal is done and dusted, the Citizen can reveal that he is not due at the club until next week at the earliest, that is unless Swindon increase their efforts to keep the player.

The battling midfielder was due at the club last Friday (June 3), but skipped his appointment for an important family affair -- the birth of his daughter.

And with manager Steve McMahon on holiday this week, the deal simply can't be done until he returns.

Scot Collins has become a free agent this summer and has told Swindon that their new contract offer is not good enough.

The 26-year-old has told Swindon that Blackpool have made him an 'acceptable' offer and the link up with his former boss McMahon must have played a big part in bringing him to the Third Division.

A spokesman for Blackpool Football Club said: "Lee hasn't signed yet -- he hasn't even come to the club.

"His wife went into labour last weekend so he couldn't come in. It will be weekend at the earliest now as Steve has been away.

"He has given us a good indication he will be signing, but until he puts pen to paper we will not announce the deal."
