THOUSANDS of people waiting for overdue benefit claims to be sorted out have had their applications processed thanks to a new computer system at Blackburn Town Hall.
Councillor Maureen Bateson told a meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Council's cabinet that in February there was a backlog of 14,661 claims.
A new computer system was installed that month, and the figure was cut to 4,869 by June and now stands at 838.
