TODMORDEN fulfilled a prediction made some months ago when they celebrated a 125-run victory in the Worsley Cup final over Haslingden at Centre Vale yesterday.

The last time Todmorden had lifted the trophy, back in 1982, their ground had been flooded.

When the heavens opened earlier in the year and Centre Vale was once more under water, the cricket club members weren't too disappointed.

"They took it as an omen that we were going to win the cup," explained a delighted skipper Nigel Hunter. "And it's proved true!

"If someone had told me I would win a trophy in my first season as captain I wouldn't have believed them. It's just fantastic," added the Australian, who could be nursing a giant hangover today after he said the team were having 'a party to end all parties' last night.

Everyone of Todmorden's side played a part in the victory but Man of the Match was Duncan Parker who, as a middle order batsman, lofted two sixes to take their score onto 236 and then produced bowling figures of 5-24 to destroy Haslingden's reply.
