I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with Mrs A Grimes' remarks in 'Trees, not more takeaways' (Letters, August 1).
I came to live in Blackburn Road, Accrington, in 1958. Then, residents swept the paths and put the litter in the bins.
The paths are still swept, but the litter is left to be blown about by the four winds for the diligent roadsweeper to remove.
There are a few trees on Park Road and I can envisage how it must have been with the lodge at the top for Elmfield Hall in Gatty Park in years gone by.
There was not a chip shop on Blackburn Road from Church Streeet, Accrington, to Market Street, Church.
D DONOHUE, Lister Street, Accrington.
