THE Autumn and Christmas season at Darwen Library Theatre promises to conclude the refurbished venue's first year in style.

Darwen Library Players' version of John Godber's Salt of the Earth is on in late September, followed by Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well in early October.

Alan Bennett's Talking Heads is staged in late October, followed in early November by Jonathan Harvey's play Beautiful Thing, about what it is like to be 16, in love and full of optimism.

A specially commissioned version of the classic tale Pinocchio will be a joint production between Darwen Library Theatre and East Lancashire based company PMA Productions just before Christmas.

The theatre's comedy club, the Humour Section, is going from strength to strength, boasting rising comedy stars such as Dominic Holland and Sean Lock.

Humour Section promoter Mick Davies said: "I am really excited about this season. It has some of the best comedy around.

"Darwen is getting a reputation as the comedy capital of Lancashire."

Rob Howell, principal arts officer for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, said: "There really is something for everyone. Anyone who hasn't been yet is missing a treat."

Copies of the new season brochure are available at the box office on 01254 706006 or by calling in at any Blackburn with Darwen library or community centre.
