CARL Fogarty has promised to be on his best behaviour after the venue for a signing session of his new autobiography was switched -- to a church.

The reigning World Superbike champion was forced to pledge that he will not swear or blaspheme at the re-arranged venue of St Ann's Church in Manchester at 7pm tomorrow.

The session was originally booked for Waterstones, Deansgate, but the demand for tickets has resulted in a move to a bigger venue -- and the book being tipped to enter the bestsellers' list at number one next week.

So the church, which is just around the corner from the shop in St Ann's Square, was chosen on the condition that Fogarty and co-author Neil Bramwell, sports editor of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, did not offend regular churchgoers during their scheduled question and answer session.

Publishers of 'Foggy' sold 35,000 copies in the first two days and have already ordered a new print run. Michael Doggert, director of publishing for Collins Willow, the sports publishing arm of Harper Collins, said: "I will be disappointed if it's not at number one when the figures are released next Wednesday.

"I am certainly confident it will be in the top three.

"The response at the signings has been amazing.

"It's comparable to the book we did with Nigel Mansell, when they were queueing round four corners of a square in London in the rain."

At the first signing session, in the City of London, organisers said the clamour to meet Fogarty far exceeded their previous best for the autobiography of Maggie Thatcher.

Fogarty is signing copies of the book at WH Smith's, Blackburn, on Friday at 6pm, following the northern launch and an afternoon signing in Preston.
