Fleetwood 243-4 Blackpool 215-5 FLEETWOOD and Blackpool fought out a high scoring draw in their Bay 96.9 Northern Premier League game at Broadwater on Bank Holiday Monday.

Put in to bat Fleetwood made a massive 243-4 in their 60 overs with skipper John Wright in magnificent form leading the way with 111.

In reply Blackpool, thanks to a dashing century from Mark Lomas, made a valiant effort but had to settle for 215-5 when their 51 overs were completed.

Wright and Michael Dewhurst put the Blackpool attack to the sword in the early stages, so much so that skipper Rudra Singh felt obliged to call an emergency team meeting after 14 overs with the total on 57-0.

It made no difference as indifferent fielding and wayward bowling was punished by the Fleetwood pair as they put on 161for the first wicket.

Wright was dismissed for 111with 13 fours and two sixes and Dewhurst eventually fell for 60. Nick Coultas, 19, John Whalley, 15, and 28 not out from professional Gary Yates helped Fleetwood to a very defendable 243-4.

Blackpool openers Croft and Cornall were back in the pavilion by the time 52 were on the board but by then Lomas got into his stride. He cruised past 50, raced to 100 and by the time he was dismissed for 129 Blackpool were 185-5. Thereafter no-one could keep up the required rate and the best Blackpool could do was settle for a third batting bonus point as they closed on 215-5.
