MUMS believe their teenage children have been lured into the flat of a man they claim is a sex pest.

They allege the middle-aged man enticed the boys and girls with videos to get them behind closed doors.

Parents on Preston's Larches Estate are outraged their school-age children have been put at risk.

They also allege the pest has forced sets of flat keys on their youngsters and encouraged them to visit him alone.

Police say the man is known to them but is not on the sex offenders' register -- the list which identifies convicted paedophiles which was the subject of a national newspaper's recent 'Name and Shame' campaign.

One mother, who didn't want to be named, says she is terrified to leave her teenage daughter on her own after she was approached by the man several times earlier this year.

She said: "Parents can't watch their children 24 hours a day, especially when they are young teenagers. But we need to know that our children are safe. I'm fully behind the 'naming and shaming' of people like this. Our children need to be kept safe from such animals."

Samlesbury mum-of-two Bernadette Rogers, who endured a childhood of rape and sexual abuse, said her heart went out to the families on the estate.

She said: "I believe that convicted paedophiles should be tagged and their names displayed in local libraries for public scrutiny."

However, a spokesman for national children's charity, the NSPCC, says that although more must be done to protect children from sexual abuse they are not in favour of the 'uncontrolled' naming and shaming of sex offenders.

He said: "The NSPCC, the Children's Society and ChildLine warn that communities should be equally alert to possible dangers.

"Children's groups are urging the government to build on its child protection track record using various means."
