I FULLY endorse the remarks of council leader Malcolm Doherty on the delights of Witton Park in Blackburn in your Insideout feature (LET, September 1).

This is why the residents of Witton defend their assets -- Witton Park, Griffin Park and Pleasington Playing Fields.

They know the value of a green environment.

They defended against the intrusion of a phone mast in the area and won their appeal.

They complain about excessive noise from the events in the park.

You can't stop noise, but, you can control it, and, therefore, the council should set the decibels at a fixed rate for all events.

Councillor Doherty says Witton Park is very adaptable and thinks local people don't realise what an asset it is to the area.

We residents know our assets. We would be foolish to foul our own nest.
