THE 11-acre former kitchenware factory site will become the retail flagship of Burnley with the opening planned for summer 2001.

The multi-million pound scheme will create about 600 jobs and includes the building of a large Sainsbury food store to replace the one in Church Street and other retail, restaurant and office development possibly including a cyber cafe.

The mixed retail and office project will also include new development to create a business and technology centre, car parking spaces and the redevelopment of The Adelphi pub.

Other shops and a restaurant scheme with improved links to Burnley Central railway station are also included in the ambitious project.
