WHILE I enjoyed the three-day Arts in the Park extravaganza and a repeat show has been suggested as part of the Blackburn's 150th anniversary celebrations, it should not be at the expense of losing Revidge Tank.
The Tank, Cannons and Brantfell steps are all a familiar part of Corporation Park's environs and of Blackburn's heritage.
I see from the council's Shuttle newspaper that a fund of £100,000 has been set aside for the 150th celebrations and extra money will be raised through private sponsorship etc.
For a few thousand pounds, the Revide viewpoint can be preserved for many more years. Would it be possible, otherwise, to raise the money by public subscription or would any of the town's industries come forward with funding?
Failing that, a contribution from the lottery funds or a request to the European Commission?
Demolition is not an option or the council will be in danger of losing credibility over a minor financial matter.
Just recently, a teenage boy made a donation of £1,500 towards parks equipment (LET, August 12). Cannot his fine act be partly matched by the council?
