JUDITH Moss (Letters, September 5) previously accused us of being cuckoo-landers and now mad hatters, but admits to visiting us to shop weekly.

We thank her for her support -- which is proof we can compete with the best in our field.

We would also love to see in Blackburn the wonderland shopping facilities she cries for. But she is impatient and impatience has its costs -- as it did many years ago when impatient people smashed down parts of Blackburn that heritage lovers now would give a king's ransom for.

That, we can now only read about. That, other towns with individuality boast about

Ms Moss has little good to say about Blackburn. Now, if she spoke up for Blackburn, perhaps the developers would look and catch on to what they are missing.

Blackburn market openly welcomes constructive criticism and we do intend to have a unique role in the future development of Blackburn, because we have invested long-term in the town and we feel part of it. We are not computer screen gazers hundreds of miles away who see Blackburn as a pinprick on a global strategy map.

So, Judith, we are in some way in agreement -- but not at any price.
