ENVIRONMENTALISTS are looking for your help to clean up and survey a patch of Fleetwood's beach this weekend.
The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is requesting volunteers to help it monitor a stretch of the beach between the lifeboat station and the kite shop as part of their national Beachwatch on Saturday and Sunday (September 16-17).
This is the only national survey of its kind and it is aimed at highlighting the effects that beach litter has on the environment. Litter causes the death of, or injury to, thousands of seabirds, mammals and turtles.
Last year's survey identified four major sources of litter on the UK's beaches, with more than 38 per cent caused by recreational users.
Fishing activities, sewage outfalls and shipping came further down the list.
Anyone wanting to take part should call Vicki Cowpe on (01253) 876525.
