POLICE OFFICERS investigating allegations of abuse in Lancashire's care homes are repeating their appeals for witnesses to come forward.

Operation Nevada was launched on July 10 with the purpose of establishing whether or not there has been ritualised abuse of children in care in homes in the region.

But they are keen to speak to more people who were residents of the homes in the 70s, 80s, and 90s who may have been abused.

They also want to speak to any staff or care workers who have been based in Lancashire during the last 30 years.

Officers will not confirm the location of the homes being investigated, but it is believed that at least one is in Blackpool. Det Insp Steve Marston, one of the officers leading the enquiry, said: "Since launching the enquiry the investigating team has taken more than 140 calls and interviewed more than 150 people nationwide. We are currently investigating allegations made against 30 people who worked in children's homes, residential schools and care establishments.

"The focus of the enquiry is to investigate the career histories of the people we have received complaints about, and to find out where they are now.

"We are particularly interested in speaking to staff and care workers who are still working or were working in the care area in Lancashire in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

"All calls will be dealt with by specially trained officers who have extensive experience of investigations of this kind."
