A MAN accused of beating and poisoning his partner, during a three day period in which he imprisoned her against her will, has made a second appearance before Blackburn magistrates.

Christian Cormack, 24, of Canterbury Street, Blackburn, was originally granted bail by the court after they had sent the case to Preston Crown Court. But after admitting breaching his bail by contacting his former partner on her mobile phone, Cormack was remanded in custody.

He is charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Gemma Madden with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm; unlawfully and maliciously injecting a poison or other toxic substance into Gemma Madden with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm; and assaulting and unlawfully imprisoning her at their home in Canterbury Street.

All the offences are alleged to have been committed between August 30 and September 3. Cormack is also charged with possession of cannabis. Miss Madden is now living at a "safe" house.
