A single dad who stole razor blades from Superdrug had £100 on him, Burnley magistrates heard.
The court was told how John Barnes, 32, had previously been turned away from town centre shops and had been to the town hall and the operating centre of the CCTV cameras to try and find out why.
His solicitor said the defendant had only one previous conviction for shoplifting and he thought he may have been getting confused for his brother.
Barnes, of Branch Road, Burnley, admitted theft and was conditionally discharged for 12 months, and ordered to pay £65 costs.
Mark Williams, defending, said Barnes could not put forward any particular reason why he committed the offence.
He had gone into town with his son, intending to buy razor blades and for some reason, put them inside his jumper and walked out.
The defendant, a father of three, had been out of trouble for three and a half years.
