A FORMER Blackburn Rovers manager is backing a pioneering scheme to bridge the generation gap.
Don Mackay is spearheading a project by the East Lancashire Education Business Partnership to draw on the skills and experience of the over-60s to help young people.
"Older people have a vast amount of wisdom and knowledge which they can pass on," said Cheryl Drinkwater of the ELEBP.
"There are a lot of life skills to be shared and a wealth of experience and expertise to be offered."
The project is aimed at over-60s either still in work or retired.
Areas which older people can get involved in include one to one mentoring of youngsters, literacy support and help with numeracy.
As well as targeting individuals the project organisers are contacting groups such as Rotary to find potential recruits for the project.
Further details on the project are available from Cheryl on 01254 389898. DON MACKAY
