PLANS for the re-franchising of the North West rail network have been welcomed by Lancashire's county councillors.
The shadow Strategic Rail Authority's plans for how the network will progress over the next few years will play a large part in how Lancashire's transport system will develop over the coming years.
The county's Local Transport Plan highlights the rail network as a key part of delivering a better transport system.
County councillor Richard Toon, chairman of Lancashire's highways and transportation, said: "The council believes that the rail network is the key to bringing major improvements in Lancashire.
"Trains have been put at the heart of our Local Transport Plan so it's vital that we ensure improvements are made now."
