SATURDAY 23 September will see Cumbria's Team Penguin heading to the notorious Killer Kielder forest to compete in the Centurion Rally. Based in Hexham, the rally gets underway at 8am. The crews will tackle almost 70 stage miles on some of the roughest forest tracks in Europe's largest man made forest. Recently crowned as British Champions at the wheel of a Proton Satira, Steve Head (26) and Andrew Dugdale (29) will be making their debut in a four -wheel-drive Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 3. The start of the first stage will be the first chance that Steve and Andrew have to get to grips with the awesome power of the new car. "The recent fuel crisis meant that we couldn't test the car, so it's going to be a huge learning curve", explained Steve. "I'll try to settle into the car on the first few stages, but I'm full of confidence. A friend recently told me that if you are a fast driver you can drive anything fast, even a double decker bus!" The rally marks the start of a busy month as Head and Dugdale work hard on their ambition to drive for a works team in the World Rally Championship. The pair will be competing in York on the Trackrod Rally the following weekend and are currently running a competition on their website to win a VIP day with the crew on the event. The Centurion Rally gets underway from Hexham at 8am. The crews will return to the service area in Hexham throughout the day before returning for a champagne finish in Hexham at 17.15.
