EIGHT teenagers from Lancaster set sail on an adventure of a lifetime aboard the city's own frigate HMS Lancaster.

The youngsters from two local secondary schools, spent four days on the pride of the Royal Navy.

Greg Sugden, Lee Roberts, Lee Richardson and Daniel Smith, all 15 from Ripley St Thomas, and John James, Craig Walker, Liam Greenall and Anthony Kuta, all 14, from Our Ladys, have all expressed an interest in a Navy career.

They sailed from Liverpool to Portsmouth taking part in a number of activities.

They saw the new Merlin Helicopter carry out anti-submarine warfare manoeuvres.

The group also witnessed an awesome exercise with five other ships including missile firing, a mock air attack and a replenishment at sea.

Executive officer, Steve Layland, said: "The aim was for the boys to get a snapshot of life on board a Royal Navy frigate."

Lee Roberts said: "Inviting us on board was a great idea. I'm really keen on joining the Armed Forces and the physical side appeal to me."

Daniel Smith added: "I would like to join the Royal Marines because I'm interested in doing the jungle training and survival techniques."
