FITNESS fanatics have been feeling the burn during a fund-raising decathlon at the Regency Fitness Suite in Blackburn.

Fifteen men and women aged between 43 and 75, who had been referred to the gym by their doctor, took part in the two-day event.

They completed 400m on the treadmill, 3km on the exercise bike and 500m on the rowing machine, plus other exercises to raise funds for a new service being launched by Cruse, to help bereaved children in Blackburn.

Age Concern ageing well co-ordinator Melanie Passerini was also on hand to offer advice and support to those taking part

Organiser Sue Hamer, a GP consultant at the fitness centre said: "It was really good. All the ladies and men who took part enjoyed themselves. We think we've raised around £300."
