CLARETS midfielder Paul Weller is looking to celebrate his new contract with a win over bottom-of-the-table Sheffield Wednesday at Turf Moor tonight.

Weller has agreed a deal that will keep him at Burnley until June, 2004 and looks set to start against troubled Wednesday in place on the injured Glen Little.

Little is ruled out with a hamstring injury, although Andy Payton looks set to play after coming off at half-time against Stockport on Saturday.

"Hopefully I'll get a game and to get a goal would be nice as well," said Weller, who replaced Little on the right-hand side of midfield in the weekend 2-1 win.

The 25-year-old hasn't started a game since picking up a knee injury against Grimsby in the middle of last month but having impressed before that has been awarded a new long-term deal.

"I'm very pleased with it. I've been here a long time and enjoyed my time here so to get an extension to my contract is really pleasing," added Weller, who has made a complete recovery from the illness that wiped out nearly two years of his career.

"The gaffer stuck by me throughout it all. He came when I first had my illness and he was brilliant during the illness and helped me get back last year.

"I got very frustrated at not getting in the team but he told me to bide my time and I've done that and managed to get in at the start of this season.

"It's been a good start for me. Picking up the injury was a bit annoying but you've just got to wait for your chance and try and get back in when you can and keep your shirt."

Burnley are looking to inflict an eighth straight League defeat on Wednesday to possibly claim a top-six spot in Division One.

"We have had a good start and we just got to try and get the points as quickly as we can so that we can be comfortable and not be at the bottom end," said Weller.

"We're at the right end of the table and if we keep playing the way we are with the fighting spirit three points tonight would be nice.

"They aren't a poor team. Everybody knows that they've got some decent players. Obviously their confidence is low so we are playing them at the right time but we've got to treat it as a normal game and go out and perform again."
