HERE'S something you don't see very often -- a lifeboat on the road! But fear not, the William Street lifeboat from Fleetwood RNLI station didn't make a wrong turn at the beach. It was seen on Amounderness Way in Blackpool while on its way for some love and attention after one of its engines failed.

Peter Woodworth, honorary secretary of Fleetwood Lifeboat, said the craft was fortunately close to the shore when the problem surfaced. He added: "She's been taken to Holyhead boatyard for repairs. We thought it was prudent to send her away by road rather than sea. It could take two to three months to repair because there was water spraying around in the engine room."

In the meantime another boat, the Emily Sarah Harrop, has been drafted in to ensure continuing assistance for those in peril on the sea.
