ATHERTON LR have signed 20-year-old midfield player Mark Mather on a one-year contract after putting in several excellent performances for the first team this season.
Mather spent his schoolboy days attached to Manchester City and was a member of LRs successful youth team a few years ago. He joins three other players on contracts at the club, captain Paul Meredith, defender Barry Cotterill and midfielder Mike Rheadon.
The club director of football and first team manager Steve Plant says: "Mark is an excellent prospect. His performances so far this season have been different class. He has had his problems over the last couple of years, but he has now settled down and is again showing that he has the ability. The contract is a reward for his hard work, and once again shows my commitment to build the foundations of this club for years to come.
"All of the contract players could quite easily play at UniBond level, and we have a few more youngsters who are starting to show promise as well."
