BURNLEY could face a fight from Preston North End if they renew their interest in Stockport County striker Ian Moore.

Reports from Stockport suggest that the deal to bring Moore to Turf Moor could be back on after it was ditched last weekend.

However, Preston are also in the hunt for the striker after losing Steve Basham with a broken leg last weekend.

The Clarets withdrew their £1.2 million bid for the 24-year-old, who has scored seven times so far this season.

However, it's believed that Moore would still be available to Burnley at that price and County manager Andy Kilner believes the deal could be resurrected.

"The deal is being done at boardroom level although I am led to believe that a deal will be back on but we have had another enquiry about him," said Kilner, who believes all the speculation is starting to affect the player's performances.

"It's obviously on his mind and that's the worst thing for us. One way or another it would be nice to say he's going or he's not going," he added.

That other enquiry has come from Preston North End, although David Moyes isn't thought to have lodged a formal bid. Burnley chairman Barry Kilby was unavailable earlier today and County chairman Brendan Elwood was unaware of any further developments after being out of circulation yesterday.

However, he admitted that County and Burnley had been close to agreeing a deal and acknowledged that another Stcokport official could have fielded a fresh enquiry.

He said: "I don't know the situation. If they are interested they must have spoken to someone at the club.

"I think in these things circumstances sometimes change and I think it's quite right as far as I know last Friday that Burnley weren't prepared to go through with a deal.

"It was left at that and he is obviously available to other bids but I think Preston North End are more interested than Burnley.

"We can't stand in his way and football being what it is you have to sell sometimes and buy in other circustmances.

"We have decided we would sell him if someone can match the figure we want."

While Moore may yet arrive at Turf Moor, Alan Lee looks set to stay at Rotherham for a further month at least.

Rotherham boss will look to finalise the details with Ternent next week but is keen to extend the Burnley's striker's loan deal.

"The lad has been magnificent in everything but putting the ball in the net. I would just love him to get a goal," said Moore.
