A CARE group is hoping to form an independent charity to attract more funding and become more involved with its members.
Carers Link Hyndburn and Ribble Valley is currently a project of Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Council for voluntary services but at a meeting this week carers formed a steering group, which will enable it to become a charity in its own right.
Wendy Langtree, chief officer for Ribble Valley's voluntary services, said the move was a good thing.
"It will give local carers the opportunity to have more say in how this organisation can respond even better to the needs of carers in Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley," said Mrs Langtree. "Also as a registered charity Carers Link will be able to seek out funding over and above the existing support from Lancashire County Council social services."
