A MAN wanted in connection with the abduction and murder of his former girlfriend has been arrested in Edinburgh, police said today.
John Steele, 48, of Higher Walton, was first spotted in the Scottish capital on Thursday.
The sighting came after police discovered the body of Megan Margerison, 53, of Severn Street, Longridge, in the boot of her Citroen Saxo car in Blackpool on Wednesday morning.
Detectives have said she was taken against her will from outside her daughter's home in Ribbleton, Lancashire, on Tuesday evening.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police said: "Early today, police in Edinburgh detained a 48-year-old man from Preston who police want to question in connection with the abduction and murder of Megan Margerison.
"Colleagues from the Lancashire force investigating the case will travel to Edinburgh later today and the family involved have been informed."
Police initially thought Ms Margerison had been stabbed but later concluded she had been strangled and the blood in her car came from her assailant breaking the car window.
