RIGHT: The English FA's decision to appoint Sven Goran Eriksson. Having clearly decided that Roy Hodgson's record did not stand up to scrutiny, Adam Crozier and Co were correct in ignoring the narrow-minded and insular rantings of the pro-English brigade in settling for the best coach available, be he from Sweden or Swaziland.

WRONG: Why allow Eriksson to oversee England's three most crucial games of the next four years on a part-time basis? He should be made to take control immediately, even if that means breaking a deal with Lazio. After all, the man does not have the best track record in honouring contracts. And why allow Peter Taylor temporary control having just deemed him incapable of managing the England under 21s?

RIGHT: The England cricket selectors' decision to stick to their guns and send Andy Flintoff back home after the three one-day internationals. There are two sports operating under the umbrella term of cricket -- Test and one-day -- just as rugby has league and union. Flintoff is a one-day player -- on good tracks -- and does not have the technique to play Test cricket.

WRONG: The England cricket selectors' decision to allow Alec Stewart to stay on the tour. There is enough reason to warrant a temporary suspension until the matter is resolved. Otherwise England's name is inextricably dragged into the murky world of match fixing.

RIGHT: For England to stage the Rugby League World Cup in England in the winter, the time when the sport should always be played in this country. The current weather should sort out the men from the boys and the two Lebanese who suffered hypothermia should be tied naked to a lampost in Castleford for the night to toughen them up.

WRONG: The complete devaluation of the tournament by allowing the New Zealand Maoris to enter a side. Why not let Christians field a team in the soccer World Cup, captained by Maradona and sponsored by the Hand of Gold? And just how long has rugby league been flourishing in Lebanon? Have the organisers not confused Beirut with Castleford on a Friday night?
