BRIGHT colours abounded when the Gujarat Hindu Society celebrated Diwali at its new community centre and temple in Preston.
Diwali, the festival of light, is the Hindu new year and this year's festival was extra special as it was held in the purpose-built centre on South Meadow Lane on October 28.
The Mayor of Preston, councillor Joseph Hood, joined the many devotees who came from all over Lancashire to join in the festivities.
During the hour-long celebration, devotees offered various food dishes as an appreciation and held prayers of prosperity.
The centre and temple project has cost £3.57 million with a £1.77 million grant from the Millennium Commission and the rest raised by the community.
The centre is the largest in the North West and offers a range of activities from sporting events to luncheon clubs for the elderly plus advice on careers is given to the unemployed.
