PAUL Robinson is facing decision time on his short-term Burnley future next week.

The on-loan Wimbledon striker is yet to start a game for the in-form Clarets and his first month's stay at Turf Moor expires a few days after Saturday's trip to West Bromwich Albion.

Burnley boss Stan Ternent may well want to keep the 21-year-old as a part of his squad but it could depend on whether Robinson sees his chances of first-team football as being better at Burnley or back at Wimbledon.

The former Newcastle man has had to wait behind the on-song duo of Graham Branch and Andy Payton, while Andy Cooke got the nod against Crewe on Tuesday night and made a goalscoring return. And Robinson will continue to have to fight for a place if the loan deal is extended.

"It would be the same as before but whether he would want that I don't know.

"I'll have to have a look at that but I want to get the weekend out of the way first," said Ternent.

A long-standing target of Ternent, Robinson was brought in to add to the Clarets' striking options on the back of a solid start to the season.

However, since his arrival they have barely stopped winning with five victories in October which has prompted the manager to largely stick with his current line-up. Payton picked up a slight hamstring strain on Tuesday night and Lee Briscoe missed the win over Crewe with a thigh problem.

However, Ternent is hopeful that the pair will be fit for the trip to the Hawthorns.

The Crewe clash was the first league game Briscoe has missed since his summer signing but Branch's performance at left-wing back and Cooke's up front may not mean an instant return.

Cooke's goal was a big bonus for the player and his boss who has been on the look-out for striking reinforcements this season.

Birmingham City's Dele Adebola was a one-time target but despite his recent goalscoring form City have had no offers for the player whose two goals helped dump Spurs out of the Worthington Cup on Tuesday night.

However, Adebola remains on the tansfer list with Blues boss Trevor Francis explaining: "Dele was playing like that every week when he first joined us but then decided to go into hibernation.

"I decided to put him on the list in the summer and ever since then his attitude has been so much better. I've not had any offers."

Burnley's build-up to Saturday's game has been disrupted by the weather as waterlogged pitches at Gawthorpe meant they were forced to train indoors again today.

"We have seen the grass, but it's normally under water," admitted Ternent.

"It's a big problem. We have got the all-weather pitch but with the training ground right down by the river it's been nearly impossible.

"But in a lot of respects it's the lads who haven't been playing who it's been difficult to keep on top of.

"The other have been playing like three games in eight days."

Peak fitness is therefore not a problem for the current first-teamers but those waiting for their chance haven't been helped.
