THE ASDA store in Blackpool had a really cool idea recently to raise money for charity -- a portable ice skating rink!

The rink was set up to raise funds for the Macmillan Windmill Appeal and manager Terry Reid enlisted the help of Olympic skaters Zoe Jones and Alan Street to promote it, but there was no ice in sight!

Terry said: "The rink is great as it is made of special plastic blocks made out of polypropelene. No ice is used but it has the same sensation as skating on ice."

Two rinks were set up for differing age groups, more than 500 children took part and £240 was raised for the cancer charity. Terry said: "It was a wonderful opportunity to give our customers something extra and an activity for the children on school holidays."
