A POULTON nightclub owner has stepped in to add that extra spark to this year's threatened Christmas lights.

Paul Mellor of The Hub nightspot has joined previous Good Samaritans Elletson Publishing and brokered a deal with Wyre councillor Harry Taylor to stop the plug being pulled on the town's festive illuminations.

Coun Taylor said of the latest light at the end of the tunnel: "I am confident that not only will the lights shine this Christmas but they will be the best ever.

"I am very grateful to both Paul Mellor of The Hub and Gary Dean of Elletson Publishing who have both demonstrated that they are businessman who are committed to helping the local community.

"Everyone will benefit from their actions -- local residents, visitors, traders and customers alike."

Paul said of the gesture: "In view of the outstanding success of The Hub in its first year, we wanted to put something back into the community. We hope everyone will enjoy this year's Christmas lights."

Coun Taylor is hunting for a celebrity for the big switch on, planned for November 24.
