FORMER Hyndburn star Amanda Parkinson set fastest time of the day in the National Four Stage Relays at Sutton Park on Saturday.

Her performance put many of the country's top road runners in the shade when she completed her leg in 14:07, 11 seconds faster than her closest rival. Running the third lap, she set up victory for Sale Harriers in 58:34.

Amanda, who has represented both England and Great Britain in cross country has targeted the World Championships in Ireland this winter. She represented England in Morocco in 1998.

Her next outings will be at the Reebok Cross Challenge races at Birmingham this Saturday, and Margate on November 19.

Catherine Riley was also at Sutton Park. Last year, while a member of Park High School AC in Colne, she became the National Junior Indoor Champion at 800m. Now running for Trafford AC, she ran the second lap in 18:25 as her new club finished 48th of 55 teams.

In the men's race over six longer laps, two local internationals helped their clubs to high finishes.

Last season's Lancashire IOK champion Andy Morgan Lee from Clayton le Moors was part of the Salford team taking 5th and Blackburn track star Jason Lobo helped Belgrave to 6th. Jason ran lap I in 18:34, while Andy recorded 17:48 for lap 3.
