RADCLIFFE martial arts ace Phillippa Berry shone at a major tournament in Wales recently. Phillipa is 17 and lives in Salisbury Road, Radcliffe. She was one of three successful competitors from Bury Taekwon-do School at the Welsh Open in Cardiff.
Phillipa won silver in the ladies colour belt sparring, despite only starting training 12 months ago. Anthony Dixon and Anthony Thomas also competed and gained medals for sparring in their individual weight categories. Anthony Thomas, a 13-year-old from Parkhills Road in Bury and a pupil at St Gabriel's High School in the town, won a silver medal. Anthony is a 1st Dan black belt.
Bury Church pupil Anthony Dixon is 14 and lives on Ribchester Drtive in Bury. He won gold in the colour belt sparring and is due to take his black belt examination in March next year. Anyone interested in joining the school should go along to Holy Cross College, Manchester Road, Bury any Tuesday or Thursday at 6.30pm.
