STEAM train enthusiasts are hoping to resurrect a journey to the seaside last operated more than 30 years ago.
East Lancashire Railway has been given a provisional date for a nostalgic trip from the Rossendale Valley to Blackpool, via Bury and Heywood.
Plans have been submitted to Railtrack for a special double-headed steam train to run on the second Bank Holiday Monday in 2001.
Members of East Lancashire Railway (ELR) will tomorrow start work on fitting new crossover points at the Heywood station.
Track layout at the station has to be altered to allow the locomotive to stop at Heywood and link up with Bury.
ELR directors and engineers have been working closely with Rochdale Council to overcome difficulties with the track.
The special train will by pulled by two steam locomotives rebuilt at Bury. It will start out from Rawstenstall, via Bury, Heywood, Manchester, and Bolton on the way to its Blackpool destination.
