ROVERS were today given the green light in their bid to sign Liverpool keeper Brad Friedel.

The Department of Employment have granted Rovers a work permit for the American international.

And chief executive John Williams is now confident of wrapping up a deal over the weekend.

"The work permit has now been granted although we haven't received the hard-copy in the post as yet," said Williams.

"Once we receive that, we'll then be able to tie things up, so something should be sorted out by Monday.

"And we are delighted with the outcome because he's a player the manager has been chasing for a while.

"We've fought hard to get a work permit and it's been worth all the effort."
