Cue, Citizen ...

Keep your telly tuned to Granada's Sunday Supplement this weekend and you will see the people who bring your community closer to you here at The Citizen's office in Preston.

As part of the programme, Granada want to show the work local newspapers do in covering issues which affect local communities.

And who did they pick first?

Of course, the paper you can rely on to keep you up-to-date with the latest news about Preston and the surrounding areas.

This week, battling floods and high winds, the Granada camera crew followed our Editor, Naomi Bunting, as she helped follow-up last week's exclusive story on controversial plans to site an incinerator in Leyland.

"It is excellent that Granada are paying such an interest in local issues," said Miss Bunting.

"All too often television only reports on the so-called 'big issues' and local matters are left untouched.

"But it is precisely these issues that really affect people's day-to-day lives." Producer Steven Roberts and cameraman Alan Fraser spent half-a-day filming staff at our Preston newsroom.

"We wanted to give television coverage to local stories that wouldn't always get coverage," said Steven.

"We will be covering stories from various papers throughout the region, but we wanted to start in Preston, so where else to go other then The Citizen."
