A PERMANENT tribute to the men and women who gave their lives during times of war is to be placed on the war memorial ground at Feniscowles, Blackburn.

A four-ton memorial stone will be set in place for Armistice Day on November 11 and will be the first permanent tribute on the Livesey Branch Road site since the ground was bought by public subscription in 1921.

It will commemorate those in the armed forces from Feniscowles and Pleasington who died during the Great War of 1914 to 1918 and in all conflicts since.

A short service will be held at the ground at 11am and a wreath laid at the stone. The trustee's committee and Livesey Parish Council now want to trace the relatives of the 12 original trustees to put on a display of photographs, but so far they have only been able to find three of them.

Secretary Fred Kenyon said: "A lot of people don't realise what this piece of land is all about, so it is good to remind people.

"In this day and age the new generation has changed.

"We don't want to keep harping on about the past too much but it is part of our historical background."
