ROSSENDALE United may need a couple of Olympic swimmers for tomorrow's North West Counties League Division One match at home to Skelmersdale!

Because of heavy rain this week Dark Lane is saturated and the game may not go ahead.

But the last thing Jim McCluskie's side need is another postponed match.

They have already suffered seven postponed or abandoned games and have played five fewer than top-of-the-table Prescot Cables.

And despite a great run of seven wins from the last nine -- including victories in their last four league games-- Jim McCluskie's side are sitting uncomfortably at the wrong end of the table.

If they won their games in hand, they would go second!

"We've not had a run of league games this season and it is very frustrating," said McCluskie.

"I have never known a start like it. There have been times when away games have been called off but our pitch has actually been fit to play on.

"The worry is that we will have to play about three games a week toward the end of the season but that is where the squad comes in and I am sure we have the players to cope.

"It makes my job easier in a way because the lads know there are plenty of games coming up."

A further problem -- albeit a welcome one -- is that Rossendale are still in the FA Vase.

"We are hoping to keep the Vase run going even though it means missing more league games. The confidence is really flowing but that makes it even more frustrating."
