POPPY Day, November 11, is the main anniversary day of the year for the Royal British Legion which depends so heavily on funds to maintain their homes in the UK.
These homes are for the benefit of ex-servicemen and women who were disabled in war time and who have required accommodation and assistance ever since.
My father, a former Infantryman of the 1914-18 war, spent some time in one of these homes in his latter years and I can testify to the high quality of care and attention he received.
I write this to remind readers of the sacrifice of these ex-servicemen and women. Support the Legion's appeal by buying a poppy and giving as generously as possible.
