BARROWFORD'S big annual bonfire will not go ahead this year because of a lack of volunteers, but organisers have said it will be back next year.
The event would normally have been held tonight on the Bull Holme Playing Fields.
One of the organisers, Ian Lord, said: "Half of the problem was that quite a few of our committee were in their 60s when we started ten years ago and so are obviously now in their 70s and have got too old.
"We started thinking about it and it was getting too late to do anything so we decided to miss it out this year and concentrate on having one next year.
"We also did not have a sponsor and with hindsight it is probably a good thing we are not having it because of the weather. The field we normally have it on is still flooded.
"But we will definitely have one next year."
