FOLLOWING my remarks about the former youth club in Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn (Letters, November 7), I was written to by a man who had tried to run a non profit-making teenage disco elsewhere, but it had to finish because of undesirables trashing the venue.

There are undesirables in all sections of society and in all age ranges. Although it may not seem so, they are in the minority and should not be allowed to spoil opportunities for everyone else.

We must not become pessimistic about the potential pitfalls, but try to overcome them.

I neither have the time, energy nor finances to start up a youth club venture, but I would be willing to help out.

It is too big a task for one person alone and I feel that it is the council's responsibility -- they should take the initiative and deal with the red tape.

They have just received, or are about to receive, a multi million-pound cash injection to spend on improving life for the people of Blackburn with Darwen.

If the council invest some of this money to provide a venue, security guard and basic items, I am sure members of the public would be willing to volunteer their time and resources, like they do with many other charitable causes.

D KERSHAW (Mrs), Parklands Way, Blackburn.
