BROOK were brought back down to earth by the unbeaten National Youth League leaders.

After a competitive first 30 minutes in which they had been the better side, the game changed when twice Brook had try-scoring opportunities which were not taken and Easts went the length of the field, scoring twice on the last tackle.

In the second half Brook were outplayed but managed a consolation score from Barry McGilvray.

Junction Fencing man of the match Dave Llewellyn, Scott Lyon, Dave Goldthorpe, John Hale and Danny Atherton all had good spells, while Paul Fass made a number of breaks which came to nothing.

Royals continued on the upgrade with probably their best first-half display of the season.

Carl Brown, Andrew Dobson, Chris Springford, Darren Winstanley and Gaz Langley scored the tries and Langley kicked two goals.

The Bell and Barrell man-of-the-match was Carl Cheetham, closely followed by Paul Foster, Andrew Tinsley and Lee Brown.

Royals played some excellent rugby against a spirited Saddleworth side who never gave up.

James Milligan (2), Neil Rigby, Dave Gwilliam, Craig Littler, Ian Gwilliam and James Roby got the tries in a game when a number of Royals set moves came off.

Dane Shepherd got Royals' try, with Sam Thompson collecting the Makerfield Timber players' player award and Joey Dixon the Rimmer Industrial Supplies man-of-the-match. Simon Dixon, Danny Leigh and Phil Platt all worked hard.

Returning to form with a vengeance, Royals overwhelmed their local rivals with an awesome display of pace and power.

Man-of-the-match Sam Melia led the way with a hat-trick, with Paddy Flynn (2), Paul Clough (2), Paul Johnson and Martyn Bradshaw also on the scoresheet.

Ian Molyneux, Rob Bridge, Dean McGilvrey and Chris Donnelly also impressed.

Royals U/12s 12 Rylands 4

Royals progressed to the Lancashire Cup quarter-finals with a hard-earned win over a good Rylands side.

Playing their best rugby of the season, they scored tries through Dan Fairhurst, Jonathan Peters and a long-range effort from Ashley Butler.

Peers, Will Abbott, Adam Twamley and Mark Bostock ran strongly, with Ryan Robinson impressing in defence.

Royals U/11s 28 Widnes Moorfield 4

A terrific display of rugby saw Royals overcome a previously unbeaten Moorfields outfit.

Co-op man-of-the-match Shaun Magennis led the way with a first half hat-trick with Fencequik top tackler Gary Wheeler and Rob Anders added second-half scores.

Chris Williams switched to hooker and had an outstanding game.

Nicholls Foods man-of-the-match Nathan Goodwin scored four tries as Royals went on a scoring spree.

Daniel Craven (3) and Chris Ford (2) also scored, while Scot Conroy had an excellent game.

Leigh Miners Rangers U/7s 20 Royals 20

Timpsons man-of-the-match Craig Davies, Billy Flynn and Jonathan Ford (3) got Royals' tries and Jack Jones and Stephen Wilson also excelled in an entertaining encounter.
