FOOT-SORE Bury soldier Corporal Bob McInnes has completed one of the world's toughest marches.

He battled against blisters and heat exhaustion to cover more than 100 miles on the infamous Nijmegen march in the Netherlands.

Corporal McInnes (32), a former pupil of Woodhey High School, Ramsbottom, joined the Army in 1988.

"I was a welder, but I was sick of the job I was doing and I was in the TA," said Corporal McInnes, whose father, Robert, still lives in Bury.

He serves with the Royal Logistics Corps, and was one of the more experienced members of the team sent to tackle the gruelling four-day march.

He said: "It's just a social thing and a good crack! It's a challenge at times, especially getting up in the mornings.

"It was long, hard, and tedious at times, but we always have a laugh on the marches."
