FIRMS in East Lancashire are being asked to 'listen in' on a way of helping the world's poorest people.
WaterAid, the charity dedicated to providing safe, clean water to Third World communities, is appealing to local firms to donate their old mobile telephones and batteries in aid of charity.
Old phones, batteries and chargers can be worth up to £30 each to the charity, depending on their condition.
Mobile phones contain potentially dangerous substances such as cadmium and most end up in landfill sites.
WaterAid can organise the regeneration of the phones for second-hand use, mainly in the developing world. Even phones that are beyond repair can contain useful materials for recycling.
