RESIDENTS opposed to the planning application for a drive-thru McDonalds Restaurant in Windle have held a meeting with representatives of BP Amoco and McDonalds, to present the case against the application.

The meeting was a follow-up to an open meeting held at Liverpool St Helens RUFC, Moss Lane.

Since the application was submitted earlier this year residents opposed to the McDonalds restaurant have written opposing letters to the council's planning department; made representations to council officers, councillors and local MP Dave Watts; organised a petition and produced a monthly newsletter to inform Windle residents of the ongoing developments.

They have also carried out detailed research on specific issues and produced papers on road safety, litter and employment. Copies of the papers have been sent to the planning department, the 10 councillors on the planning committee, MP Dave Watts, BP Amoco and McDonalds.

Following the latest meeting with BP Amoco and McDonalds, a spokesman for the residents committee, said: "The members of the committee made the case forcibly and whilst McDonalds and BP Amoco representatives listened to what was said, it was clear that they intend to continue with the application. Therefore, Windle residents must continue their efforts to maintain their resolution to resist the application.

"It now seems likely that the application will not be considered by the Planning Committee until early in the New Year."
